As is in most part of the world, Coffee is valued in Ethiopia – its birth place, and has greater economic, spiritual, social and religious significance.

A popular legend about the discovery of coffee reveals that a young shepherd named Kaldi noticed his goats, after chewing the bright red berries from a tree, pranced excitedly. He too tasted the berry and enjoyed its stimulating effect.

A monk, who found Kaldi in his invigorated state, tried the berries with his brethren and felt alert during long prayers at night. Soon, the news spread across the region and all the monks of the realm were chewing the berry before their night prayer. It was, as a result, accepted as a stimulant drink.
